Leadership & Management Development
Sykes Fairbairn helps leaders and managers to ‘look in the mirror’ at their personal performance, define areas for improvement and develop them in context of the business challenges they face.A recent research report published by the Centre for Creative Leadership© in 2006 revealed some interesting trends in the nature of leadership. The research pointed to the conclusion that “Leadership is changing and approaches focusing on flexibility, collaboration, crossing boundaries and collective leadership are expected to become a high priority”
Today’s business climate is uncertain, dynamic and challenging. Organisations have become highly complex and responsibility devolved to lower levels as structures become ever more lean. The CCL© report supports our own conclusions that effective leadership in today’s dynamic business environment is highly challenging and requires a more inclusive and networked approach demanding collaboration, interdependency, clear accountabilities and wider acceptance of leadership responsibility.
We have also observed that development for leaders, if it takes place at all, too often takes place in sterile environments isolated from the realities that people face in business. We concluded that leadership development needed to be pragmatic and ‘real’ so our development programme takes place ‘in context’ linking individual development to specific challenges faced by individual leaders in their business.
Leadership Style & EffectivenessWhilst nature has a heavy influence on individual preferences and default behaviours, we believe that the experiences that we live through and the development we receive ‘nurtures’ our leadership style and effectiveness. Our approach is contemporary, it reflects an accelerated learning cycle and has high impact. Most importantly we connect the development to the specifc challenges facing individual leaders to enable them to perform and deliver consistent results under pressure. We develop leaders that can:understand the strategic context for their actionstranslate leadership development learning back into their businessaccept ‘devolved’ leadership responsibilities and deliver consistent results under pressurecommunicate performance demands to others in a compelling waybuild team motivation and commitmentovercome ‘performance interference’
We develop leaders that are:resilientcommitted to succeedadaptive and champion changeable to perceive the truth in situations and react appropriately lead people through organisational uncertainty
